LG might launch its flexible screens for smartphones this year

The next major LG smartphone will have t - it a flexible screen? If a report in the Korea Times proves to be correct, then there are high chances that it is. Article focuses on the rivalry between LG and Samsung, and then slides a very interesting sentence at the end of the latter. He said that LG is working on the implementation of flexible screens, we knew already, but that the firm would have concluded a partnership with the Ministry of Finance of the Korea, and "aims to ship its first batch of flexible displays later this year.

This news comes after LG Display has announced increased funding at the beginning of the year, confirming that a high percentage of the budget would be allocated to R & D and would go in this so-called advanced technologies, including the next generation of flexible and transparent screens. It seems that it is already beginning to bear fruit.

Samsung has been the leading candidate to release a device with a flexible screen for awhile, and showed his concept called Youm during his press conference at CES 2013. The speculation to see one day the Galaxy Q - name that would be given to the smartphone shipping this technology as soon as it will be formalized - is supposed to have two screens touch 1080 p, 5.3 inches each, and can be folded to become a smaller device. If the concept may seem completely bonkers, flexible phones are still far from being final projects, due to the absence of batteries and flexible circuits, but the use of a hinge reducing environment is one way around this problem, while continuing to come up with a new technology within the system.

However, the firm was careful not to talk about too soon, since technology seems not yet ready to formally arrive in the hands of the general public.

LG also pushed the limits of flexible screen tip for some time, having been responsible for the first flexible E - Ink display which ended up on the reading light Wexler last year

However, LG is also known for its forward launches first of a brand new technology, before offering it to the competition in all first place. For example, when the firm unveiled its 5 inch screen with a resolution of 1080 p for smartphones, such a resolution on a small scale was so far from ever seen, HTC embarked it on its smartphones Butterfly and Droid DNA first.

That said, I hope that LG will offer a smartphone with a flexible screen from this year, even if it is likely to be marketed more as a unbreakable screen, in the absence of flexible processors, batteries, and other key internal components so that our dreams finally come true... Not that it is not important, since an unbreakable screen could be a bargain today...

On which phone might see the flexible screen to debut? And well, the rumour of a flat G2 Optimus for release end of 2013...
